Millions of patients treated with LASIK using a wide variety of lasers. This procedure can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Before the surgery:
Before LASIK surgery will be part of your eyes examined by a doctor to see if there is a good candidate. If you wear contact lenses, you can stop taking those 1-4 weeks after surgery, and switch it to the glasses to the cornea to return to its original shape, or it could have adverse consequences such as inaccurate measurements and a poor surgical plan, which is bad eyesight after surgery. These measurements are to determine how much corneal tissue is removed, and repeated one week after the initial evaluation and before surgery to see that the measurements have not changed.

It is important to tell your doctor about the past and present medical eye conditions and medications, or if you are allergic to any medicine. Then the day of surgery you can get a numbing drop so you do not feel the pain, although some patients do not experience discomfort. The area around the eye is cleaned and a lid speculum will be used, which allows you to keep your eyelids open. A suction ring is placed in the eye and suction is created by applying extremely high pressure to the cornea. As a result, the vision becomes blurred and the pressure may cause some discomfort.

During the surgery:
A small device called a microkeratome suction ring will be attached to the blade of which will be used to cut a thin flap in the cornea. The cover is created, revealing corneal tissue. Subsequently, both the microkeratome and the suction ring are removed. The doctor will now lift the lid and close the hinge, revealing a layer of tissue called the stroma – the middle part of the cornea.

You need to focus on a particular spot, and the doctor starts the laser to remove corneal tissue according to the measurements of the initial investigation. The cover is then put back into place and left to heal.

After surgery:
Because no stitches are required, you just have to wear a patch on the eye protection to prevent rubbing, getting poked, or any pressure, which interferes with the healing process. You may have three to six months for vision to stabilize after surgery.

It is important to know everything about laser surgery to go through with it – the benefits and side effects, if any. Consult your doctor, as only he can tell if this surgery will be good for you. After all the necessary information, you can make the decision whether or not you want the surgery to go ahead and give yourself the opportunity to make the world a whole new way!
